According to the Gaza Media Office (GMO) who released the figures, at the hospital Hussam Al-Masri, (photojournalist with Reuters); Mohammad Salama (photojournalist with Al Jazeera Channel); Mariam Abu Daqqa (journalist with. The Independent Arabic and Associated Press); Moaz Abu Taha (journalist with NBC News) and Ahmed Abu Aziz (journalist with Quds Feed Network) were killed when the Israeli occupation bombed a group of journalists who were on a reporting mission at Nasser Hospital. Journalists Hatem Omar (photojournalist for Reuters) and Jamal Badah (photojournalist for Palestine Today TV) were injured. Twenty people were killed in the Israeli attacks and several were injured.
Al-Masri was running a live video feed from the hospital, which suddenly shut down when the first strike hit. Israel has accounted for both strikes on the hospital. The deaths were announced by the Gaza Government Media office, stating, “The Government Media Office strongly condemns the systematic targeting, killing, and assassination of Palestinian journalists by the Israeli occupation. We call on the International Federation of Journalists, the Arab Journalists Union, and all journalist bodies in every country worldwide to denounce these systematic crimes against Palestinian journalists and media workers in the Gaza Strip. We hold the Israeli occupation, the U.S. administration, and the states participating in the genocide — such as the United Kingdom, Germany, and France — fully responsible for committing these heinous and brutal crimes.”
As journalists who work hard to expose these atrocities, we are furious at the unabated violence our colleagues in Palestine are enduring. Israel has murdered at least 274 journalists since October 2023. Journalism is not a crime. Killing journalists is THE crime.
