Sierra Leone’s President, Julius Maada Bio, has dismissed Chief Immigration Officer Alusine Kanneh from his position. A brief statement signed by the Secretary to the President EmmanuelA.R Gaima introduced Moses Tifa Baio as Sheriff’s replacement.
It remains uncertain whether Kanneh’s removal is related to alleged ties to Jos Leijdekkers, Europe’s most wanted drug trafficker. Kanneh has faced accusations of connections to Leijdekkers following the emergence of a video showing them together at a nightclub. In addition, a video surfaced last December showing Leijdekkers at a church service in the President’s hometown. Dutch authorities have requested Leijdekkers’ extradition, prompting an open-source investigation by the Sierra Leone Police.
Further details in the State House press release indicated that James B. Bio would lead the Sierra Leone Roads Safety Authority, and Joseph M. Sandi had been appointed to the Sierra Leone Housing Corporation.
