The Electoral Commissioner of Sierra Leone (ECSL), Mohamed Konneh, stated that he will not resign and that the election will continue as planned, despite the ultimatum issued by the presidential candidate of the All Peoples Congress party (APC) Dr. Samura Kamara.
Dr Kamara demanded the resignation of Konneh and other commissioners due to concerns over a flawed registration/verification process, voter ID issues, and intimidation of supporters by the government. During a press conference, Kamara outlined a series of demands that needed to be addressed before the election, including manually tallying votes and releasing a comprehensive voter register.
The Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) condemned the call for resignation as an “attempt to disrupt peaceful elections.” The SLPP declared its refusal to allow the 24th June 2023 elections to be disrupted due to the APC’s lack of preparation.
The credibility of the forthcoming election is in question.
