After the June 24 elections, Julius Maada Bio was declared winner with 56% of the vote, which the APC party claims was stolen. Meanwhile, members of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party were sworn in as new members of parliament on Thursday.
In an interview with the national broadcaster following his swearing-in ceremony, Bangura said taking the oath of office is his constitutional right and he has committed no wrongdoing. In response to a question about the potential consequences of defying the party, he confidently replied, “I am ready for anything.”
In the recent elections, the ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party secured 81 seats, while the opposition All People’s Congress won 54 out of the total 135 seats.
