Sengu Mohamed Koroma has been elected the new Vice President of the ECOWAS Court of Justice.
A release from the ECOWAS commission revealed that Justice Ricardo Clavia Monteiro Gonçalves is the new ECOWAS Court of Justice president. Justice Gonçalves was elected by the five judges of the Court for a two-year term. This appointment follows the six-year term of office held by the former President, Hon. Justice Edward Amoako Asante, who assumed office on July 31, 2018. Additionally, Justice Sengu Mohamed Koroma was elected as Vice President to succeed the outgoing Vice President, Hon. Justice Gberi-bè Ouattara.
Both Justice Gonçalves from Cabo Verde and Justice Koroma from Sierra Leone were sworn in by former President Umaro Sissoco Embalo for a four-year term. In his inaugural speech, President Gonçalves highlighted the importance of responsibility and dialogue as key pillars of the Court’s mission. Moving forward, he emphasized fostering relationships with other ECOWAS institutions and maintaining financial prudence in the administration of the Court’s funds.
