Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio has unveiled his partial cabinet following a closely contested election. In addition to reassigning some ministers, he appointed new ones. Appointments are subject to parliamentary approval.
Many of the newly appointed ministers, including Haja Ramatulai Wurie, are unknown. We will present the profiles of some of the lesser-known appointees in this new series.

Professor Haja Ramatulai Wurie is a Senior Lecturer at the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS), University of Sierra Leone. As part of her research in Sierra Leone, she has produced evidence to inform government policy and donor strategies to build resilient and responsive health systems for all, thereby achieving universal health coverage. Her research findings have been disseminated at local and international fora, and she has also provided technical assistance to Sierra Leone to strengthen its health systems post Ebola, helping develop a recovery plan for the health sector.
In her role at COMAHS, she worked to change the research landscape through institutional research capacity building. She was the Principal Investigator/Research Manager on the recently concluded European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) funded RECAP-SL (Research Capacity Sierra Leone) project, which focused on building institutional capacity at COMAHS to support multidisciplinary health research during the rebuilding phase.
