In his speech as a special guest at the movie premiere of ‘Mama’s Last Dance’ on May 11 at BSK Cultural Center located at Hillcrest, Maryland, USA, Murtala Mohamed Kamara urged Sierra Leoneans to be united and support each other.
Speaking to hundreds of attendees, Kamara commended the strong showing of support from the Sierra Leonean community in America at the event, debunking the misconception that Sierra Leoneans do not support their own. Drawing inspiration from the Nigerian community, Kamara highlighted the abundance of talent in Sierra Leone and stressed the need for continuous support for local talent to thrive. kamara, the founder of SaloneJamboree newspaper, a leading arts and entertainment publication in Sierra Leone expressed optimism about the potential of Sierra Leonean films to make a mark globally with the right backing, especially in the current era of digital platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime. He lauded Winstina Taylor, the CEO of Prime International Production and producer of ‘Mama’s Last Dance’, for her dedication to advancing the Sierra Leonean film industry, urging others to rally behind her efforts.
The premiere of ‘Mama’s Last Dance’ garnered significant attention, with a diverse audience including musicians, actors, and members of the business community from the DMV area in attendance. Pastor David Vandy, who featured in the film, unveiled the cast list onstage, and rapper YOK 7, Taylor’s husband, delivered a captivating rendition of the movie’s soundtrack alongside popular Sierra Leonean artist Rozzay.
