Sierra Leone’s ex-president, Ernest Bai Koroma, has responded to the Sierra Leone Police’s call for assistance in investigating the failed coup on November 26th. He reported to the Criminal Investigation Department within 24 hours as requested by the police.
On Friday, the former President was picked up from his residence and driven in a heavily secured convoy to the Criminal Investigation Department. Family members and members of Parliament from his All Peoples Congress Party awaited his arrival, and he was accompanied by Lawyer Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara. The number of people accompanying him was restricted by the police. The former President was interrogated at the CID without media presence.
After his visit to the Police, the former President was driven back to his residence. Freetown remains calm, with people going about their normal activities.
The Sierra Leone Police have also arrested former bodyguards of ex-President Ernest Bai Koroma, including Idriss Kamara, also known as Leaderboth, who was killed during the failed coup attempt. Security officials believe he was one of those involved in the coup.
Former President Ernest Bai Koroma won the 2007 Presidential elections, serving two terms before his party lost in the 2018 elections to Julius Maada Bio’s SLPP Party.
