The Liberian Ambassador to Sierra Leone has told EyeWitnessNews in Freetown that the visit of Liberia’s President speaks volumes. She stressed these two English-speaking neighbours’ strong ties and shared histories.
Ambassador Angie Kolue Nynemah Lavela von Ballmoos pointed out, “Having President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., of Liberia, visit Freetown, Sierra Leone, speaks volumes.”
She continued, “It registers a perspective in today’s leadership.”
“The two sister English-speaking neighbours share common histories and cultures; Liberia’s President’s visit will be seen as a visit of a similar people.
It is President Boakai’s first visit as President of Liberia.
The President will be accompanied by foreign minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti, agriculture minister Alexander Nuetah, interior minister Francis Nyumalin, and Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah.
During his time in Sierra Leone, President Boakai will be hosted by President Julius Maada Bio at State House, attend a meeting at the Mano River Union Secretariat, and participate in an important event at the Liberian Embassy. There will be discussions about enhancing collaboration, economic development, and regional security.
President Boakai, who assumed office on January 22, 2024, after winning a runoff election against former President George Weah, is well-versed in Mende and is believed to have strong family ties to Sierra Leone.
