The European Union has unveiled its latest investment in Sierra Leone’s creative future, announcing 25 awardees under the Culture Moves Salone Mobility Fund 2026.
The announcement was made on Friday, May 8th, at the Creative Hub Africa on Spur Road during a public presentation event. EU Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Jacek Jankowski, said the EU is proud to support the selected artists, cultural managers, and creative entrepreneurs.
“This group represents the crème de la crème,” Jankowski said. “They deserve this support, and I am very happy that the EU is working with them. They should be Ambassadors of Sierra Leone.”
Culture at the Heart of Partnership
Jankowski noted that the support comes at a significant moment, during the Golden Jubilee of relations between Sierra Leone and the European Union. He stressed the importance of culture in national development and identity.
“This support is coming at a time of the Golden Jubilee between Sierra Leone and the European Union,” he said. “Culture is what defines a country, and we will continue to support Sierra Leone’s development strides.”
What the Fund Covers
The Culture Movesy Salone Mobility Fund 2026 provides grants of up to 50,000 SLE to help creatives travel professionally for 1–2 weeks. The funding is designed to build partnerships, sharpen skills, and increase visibility for Sierra Leonean creators across the country and throughout Africa.
Eligible activities include artistic research, residencies, workshops, masterclasses, exhibitions, performances, festivals, and professional networking. The program prioritizes youth, women, and professionals based outside of Freetown.
The 25 Awardees
Selected by an international panel, the 25 recipients represent a wide range of disciplines, from fashion and film to audio-visuals and tourism. Several showcased their projects during the presentation, highlighting the breadth and ambition of Sierra Leone’s creative sector.
With this initiative, the EU is reinforcing its long-term commitment to Sierra Leone’s cultural economy and its role in driving innovation, exchange, and opportunity across the region.
