West African leaders have begun arriving in Guinea’s capital, Conakry, for the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Mamady Doumbouya.
Mamady Doumbouya will be sworn in as the 5th President of Guinea on Saturday, the 17th of February 2026, after winning the December 2025 election with 86.7% of the total vote count. Doumbouya is seeking to legitimise his rule after seizing power in a 2021 coup.
Our EyeWitnessNews reporter on the ground in the capital said that a total of ten heads of state and government are expected to attend the event in Guinea. Our reporter confirmed that the President of The Gambia, Adama Barrow, has just arrived in Conakry, while the Nigerian Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has also touched down at the Ahmed Sékou Touré International. The Nigerian Vice President will be representing President Bola Tinubu.
Our reporter witnessed a motorcade convoy with the Rwandan flag on one of the vehicles. He said it is likely that the President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, who is a close ally of Doumbouya, will be in attendance.
The Gabonese President is also expected at the inauguration.
Sierra Leone’s President, Julius Maada Bio, who is also the chairman of ECOWAS, is expected at Saturday’s event at the GLC stadium in Nongo, Conakry.
Our reporter noted that massive security patrols are underway in Conakry ahead of tomorrow’s event.
The situation in Guinea is calm as of Friday, as people are going about their normal businesses. Human rights groups and members of the opposition have stated that the December 2025 election was far from free and fair.
EyeWitnessNews will provide continuous coverage of Saturday’s event.
