The former mayoral aspirant for the Sierra Leone Peoples Party, Mohamed Gento Kamara, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the political culture in the country and how wicked most politicians are.
“The fight and backstabbing is not something I can stand. Politics is not for me” said Gento. He made this comment in an interview on Radio Democracy 98.1.
In the said interview, Gento recounted his experience as a politician and dropped a bombshell on his political career. “I am disappointed with politics. I don’t see myself contesting for any political position”.
He stated that since he is off the political arena, he is purely focused on his business and his desire to help Sierra Leoneans.
Speaking on the election results, Gento stated that he had a feeling that he won the seat for mayor of Freetown but acknowledged that it is the Electoral Commission Sierra Leone (ECSL) who has the constitutional mandate to pronounce the winner. Hence, he congratulated Yvonne Aki-Sawyer after the result was announced and assured her he would work with her whenever the need arose.
He called on Sierra Leoneans to think of Sierra Leone and move the country forward as elections are now over.
Kamara contested for the Mayor of Freetown under the Sierra Leone Peoples Party. His main rival Yvonne Aki-Sawyer of the All Peoples Congress won the mayoral seat with a total vote of 288,683 (51.36%) whilst Kamara got 268,213 votes (47.72%).
Kamara is the owner of Gento Group of Companies, a construction firm.
