Sierra Leone’s capital Freetown is relatively calm and quiet on Monday following a viral audio for the people of the country to go on a two days strike.
The audio called on Sierra Leone to embark on a sit down strike on Monday June 12 and on June 13 to take to the streets of Sierra Leone.
On the night of Sunday June 11, the city was relatively quiet. An Eyewitness took a tour of the city, the Lumley beach which is known for weekend buzz was quiet.
An eyewitness toured some parts of Freetown on Monday, June 12. The hours between 7am and 8:30am are normally a busy time for the city, however, traffic is not as heavy as usual.
The city is at present calm, but vehicular traffic is slow and there are few people on the streets. Since some businesses and shops are open while others are closed, it is unclear how many people are participating in the strike.
As a result, the government has called for calm and encouraged citizens to carry on with their normal activities.
