Sierra Leone Electoral Commissioner Mohamed Konneh, announced partial presidential results that put Julius Maada Bio in pole position for re-election. 60 percent of valid votes were processed at the four regional tallying centres in Freetown, Bo, Makeni, Kenema, and Port Loko.
As of now, Julius Maada Bio of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has garnered 1, 067, 666 votes, while Dr Samura Kamara of the All People’s Congress (APC) has garnered 793, 751 votes.
13 candidates contested but It comes down to two, the APC and SLPP. To be declared winner, a presidential candidate must receive 55 percent of the votes cast. The final presidential results will be announced within 48 hours, according to Konneh.
After Saturday’s polls, both SLPP and APC supporters claimed victories. The Electoral Commissioner advised political parties to avoid misleading their supporters. ECSL has the constitutional mandate to announce election results, according to Konneh.
