A statement signed by Garba Shehu, former President Buhari’s aide, on Sunday reads: “The family has announced the passing of the former President, Muhammadu Buhari, this afternoon, in a clinic in London. May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus, Amin.” President Buhari passed away at the age of 82.
Shamsiya Adamu, a Nigerian living in Bauchi, told EyeWitnessNews that Bauchi is very quiet. She said Buhari’s death came as a shocking news.
Buhari held the presidency in Nigeria from 2015 to 2023 and also served as the military Head of State between January 1984 and August 1985.
President Tinubu has sent his Vice President Kashim Shettima to London to accompany Buhari’s body back to Nigeria. He has directed that all flags throughout Nigeria be flown at half-mast.
