Ghanaians were left frustrated and disheartened after the Black Stars played out a disappointing 0-0 draw against Sudan in their AFCON 2025 qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium on October 10, 2024. Expectations were high for a win, especially given the team’s struggles in previous matches, but despite dominating possession and creating several chances, Ghana failed to convert, leaving supporters feeling let down.
The team’s inability to secure a crucial victory in front of a home crowd, after consecutive poor results, compounded growing concerns over their qualification campaign. Ghana currently sits third in their group with just two points from three games, following a loss to Angola and a draw against Niger. With their hopes of qualifying for the 2025 AFCON now in jeopardy, the pressure is mounting on the Black Stars to deliver in their remaining matches.
Isaac Kumi , a devoted supporter, voiced his frustration after the game, stating, “This match is nothing but a disappointment. We expected so much more.” Another fan, Charlotte Mensah , echoed his sentiment, saying, “Ghana has failed us. We thought they would turn things around, but it’s the same story again.”
Beyond the action on the pitch, frustrations were intensified by logistical issues with ticket sales. Many supporters, who had bought their tickets online, never received confirmation messages on their phones, leaving them unable to enter the Accra Sports Stadium despite having already paid. This sparked frustration outside the stadium gates, as loyal fans were denied access to the game they had anticipated attending.
To make matters worse, several fans had placed bets on a Ghana win, expecting a strong performance from the Black Stars. With the draw, those who lost their bets grew agitated, leading to heated arguments among disappointed supporters after the match. While tensions flared and some fans nearly came to blows, no major incidents occurred, and the situation eventually calmed down.
For many, the draw against Sudan felt like a missed opportunity—not just in terms of qualification but in rekindling the trust and optimism of the fans. The chaotic ticketing situation and lost bets only added to what was already a disappointing day for Ghanaian football.
