As part of its investigation of the failed coup attempt on November 26th, the Sierra Leone Police has requested the presence of former president Ernest Bai Koroma. The police have given him 24 hours to report to the Criminal Investigation Department.
In his response, the former President expressed his willingness to cooperate and emphasized the importance of maintaining calm during this time.
It is worth noting that the recent events in Freetown involved gunfire and bombings in various areas. The Wilberforce military armoury, as well as the Pademba prison and the female prison, were attacked, resulting in the release of prisoners. In response, the government implemented a curfew and later confirmed the incident as a failed coup attempt. On December 26th, an interfaith funeral service was held at the military headquarters to honour the 18 security personnel who lost their lives during the attacks. President Julius Maada Bio, in his speech at the ceremony, hailed the fallen soldiers as heroes who valiantly defended democracy.
Currently, a curfew from 9 pm to 6 am remains in effect nationwide, with extensive checkpoints established throughout the country. Information Minister Chernoh C Bah stated that these measures have aided in capturing fugitives, and he urges the public to remain patient.
