During a one-day visit, the Chief Executive Officer of EyeWitnessNews Africa, Murtala Mohamed Kamara, met with reporters from EyeWitnessNews Liberia in Monrovia. Kamara was warmly received at the ICampus conference room on Carey Street.
Expressing his satisfaction at meeting the reporters in person, Kamara commended them for their excellent coverage of the Liberian Presidential inauguration. He emphasized the significant impact the media can have on national development when used effectively. As a correspondent for the German international broadcaster Deutsche Welle, Kamara highlighted the current opportunities for journalists in the era of the internet and social media. He underscored that content is key in today’s media landscape, stating that quality content can be produced in even the simplest of settings and still attract a large audience. Kamara emphasized that EyeWitnessNews aims to do more than report the news; it strives to foster connections among Africans. He pledged his ongoing support to enhance the capacity of the EyeWitnessNews Liberia team and provide them with the necessary equipment.
An interactive session during the meeting focused on training reporters to write for a global audience and publish stories across various social media platforms. The team also delved into the workings of EyeWitnessNews online radio and brainstormed story and documentary ideas. Kamara expressed his delight in contributing to Liberia’s development, while the team conveyed their gratitude for his visit and promised to maintain their dedication to quality reporting.
Head of the EyeWitnessNews Liberia Bureau, Evelyn Seagbeh, who was en route to catch a flight, expressed appreciation to Kamara for his perseverance in navigating immigration challenges to meet with the Liberian team, showcasing his dedication to their cause.
Plans are underway for a virtual training program to continuously enhance the capabilities of the reporters.
