APC has rejected the legitimacy of the provisional election results announced by the Chief Electoral Commissioner, Mohamed Konneh, of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL). Hours after the announcement, the APC released a press release detailing their reasons for rejecting the results.
This press release alleges that APC party agents were unable to “participate” and were denied access to verify the results before they were announced. According to the party, ECSL did not inform them of the “mode of announcement”.
Additionally, the party stated that the process lacked transparency, accountability, and inclusivity.
APC has urged ECSL to refrain from further announcement of results as they will not accept “fake and cooked up results.” APC has vowed to ensure that due processes are followed and that the right thing is done.
Provisional results released by ECSL on Monday indicate that Dr Samura Kamara, the APC’s presidential candidate, is trailing incumbent Julius Maada Bio. The results represent 60 percent of the total votes processed at the Regional Tally Centres in Freetown, Bo, Makeni, Kenema, and Port Loko. ECSL boss said final results will be announced within 48 hours.
