The United Nations General Assembly meetings are currently underway in New York, commemorating the organization’s 80th anniversary.
World leaders, including Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio, have gathered to discuss pressing global issues. Key topics include the Israel-Palestine conflict, with many countries expected to formally recognize Palestine.
President Bio, who also serves as chairman of ECOWAS, will likely discuss regional peace efforts, particularly in the Sahel, as well as Sierra Leone’s achievements in democracy, the rule of law, education, and the economy.
He may also call for peace and a two-state solution in the Israel-Palestine conflict. As a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, Bio will likely address ongoing global conflicts and share Sierra Leone’s success story with the UN.
President Bio is also expected to hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the UNGA and also attend scheduled events in the Sierra Leonean community in the US.
